To make learning about perimeter and area more fun and hands-on, the students designed their own robots!! They the figures out the area and perimeter of their robots! My class made this by creating a stencil and taping it down to water color paper. Then each student selected a color that they wanted their fingerprints to be and placed their prints around the stencil. We are going to make one of these for each teacher that worked with my class this year (using different stencils) I wanted to do something different this year for a Mother's day present for my students and I came up with this quick and easy gift that could be done with students of any age. Step 1: Have your students use tempera paint to paint stripes across a blank piece of paper (make sure you use thick paper). Make sure you give them enough different colors to make it bright and colorful! Step 2: Now this is the trickiest step. Take a piece of black construction paper and fold it in half. Place the student's had on the folded black paper with the pointer finger and thumb touching the folded edge so that your two fingers hang of the edge a little. Trace the student's had and cut it out. Make sure you cut through both pieces of paper and that you leave the pointer and thumb fingers connected. Step 3: Unfold the hand and see how the reflection creates a heart in the middle. I wrote the following poem to go along with the hands. For My Mom These hands of mine have formed a heart. This is a symbol of our love that will never part. Thank you for all the wonderful things that you do. Most importantly, thank you for being you. I love you more than words can say. I hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day! Step 4: Print off the poem and have the students cut it out (I used crafting scissors to make it look a little nicer) and have the students use a glue stick to glue the hands and the poem to their painting and voilà beautiful one of a kind piece of art. |
